Is God Really Your Priority? Your Life Tells the Truth

Scriptures: Psalm 119, Proverbs 16, Jeremiah 9:23–24, Galatians 5:16

Don’t Let Distractions Take God’s Place

We live in a world filled with distractions. Our phones, conversations, jobs, entertainment, and personal responsibilities constantly compete for our attention.

But here’s the question: Are these things distracting us from what matters most?

Don’t let the outside noise distract you from God.

It’s easy to claim that God is our greatest priority, but our actions often tell a different story.

What is the most important thing in your life and how does your schedule represent that?

We make time for what matters to us. If God is truly important, our commitment to Him should be reflected in how we spend our time.

When you don’t make a commitment to God you have a made a commitment NOT to God.

Choosing not to prioritize God is still a choice. We cannot continually put Him last while claiming He comes first.

Are You Examining Your Own Life?

Psalm 119:59 (KJV) says:

“I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies.”

That brings us to a powerful question:

Do you think on your ways?

How often do you stop and evaluate your spiritual condition? Are your habits bringing you closer to Christ? Are your attitudes improving? Are you becoming more obedient?

Spiritual growth requires honest reflection and a willingness to change.

You cannot be a christian and say you are not trying to be great.

Being a great Christian isn’t about recognition or being better than someone else. It’s about pursuing spiritual maturity and becoming more like Christ.

What is God doing in your life? Can you identify some of the things?

We should be able to recognize areas where God is helping us grow, even if that growth is gradual.

Your Plans Are Not Always God’s Plans

Proverbs 16:9 (KJV) reminds us:

“A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.”

Having goals and making plans are good things, but we must be careful not to confuse our personal desires with God’s direction.

Just because you have a plan does not means it’s God’s plan.

Sometimes we become so committed to what we want that we forget to ask whether it aligns with God’s Word.

Are you seeking God’s direction before making decisions, or are you simply asking Him to bless decisions you’ve already made?

A life committed to Christ requires humility and the willingness to follow His direction—even when it differs from our own.

What Does Real Greatness Look Like?

Jeremiah 9:23–24 teaches us that true greatness isn’t found in wisdom, strength, or riches, but in knowing and understanding the Lord.

The world measures success through money, influence, accomplishments, and recognition.

But God measures things differently.

You can be successful in your career and still be spiritually immature. You can have everything the world considers valuable while neglecting your relationship with Christ.

Christians should think differently about everything.

Our faith should influence how we approach work, relationships, money, conflict, and personal ambitions.

The goal isn’t simply to be successful in the world’s eyes. It’s to live a life that honors God.

Are You Walking in the Flesh or the Spirit?

Galatians 5:16 (KJV) says:

“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.”

This leads to one final question:

Do you walk after the flesh or in the spirit?

Our spiritual condition is revealed through our daily choices, especially when nobody is watching.

Are we allowing our emotions, pride, and personal desires to control our decisions? Or are we seeking to follow God’s Word?

Following Christ should produce a noticeable difference in how we think, speak, and treat others.

Challenge: Let Your Priorities Speak

This week, challenge yourself to:

  • Examine your schedule. Does it reflect your commitment to God?
  • Eliminate unnecessary distractions. Make intentional time for prayer and Scripture.
  • Think on your ways. Identify areas where you need to grow.
  • Commit your plans to God. Seek His direction rather than assuming your plans are His.
  • Pursue spiritual greatness. Strive to become more like Christ.
  • Walk in the Spirit. Let your faith influence your everyday decisions.

Final Reflection

It’s easy to say God comes first. It’s much harder to live in a way that proves it.

Our schedules, habits, decisions, and priorities reveal what truly matters to us.

Don’t let the outside noise distract you from God.

What is the most important thing in your life and how does your schedule represent that?

Just because you have a plan does not means it’s God’s plan.

Don’t become so focused on building the life you want that you neglect the relationship God wants you to have with Him.

If God is truly your priority, your life should reflect it.
