Where Does Your Confidence Really Lie?
Sunday Morning — July 19, 2026
Scriptures: Proverbs 25, Proverbs 1, Proverbs 14, 2 Corinthians 6, 1 Corinthians 15
Do You Really Have Confidence in Christ?
“Do you have confidence in me?”
It’s a simple question, but one that should cause every Christian to examine where their trust truly lies.
We often place confidence in our abilities, relationships, finances, and the people around us. But what happens when those things fail?
Don’t put your confidence in flesh put your faith in Christ!
Proverbs 25:19 (KJV) says:
“Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.”
People can disappoint us, even with good intentions. Our greatest confidence should be in the Lord, not in the strength or approval of others.
When life becomes difficult, where do you turn first?
You Can’t Keep Going In and Out of Christ
You can’t just bounce in and out of Christ.
Christianity should not be something we practice only when life becomes uncomfortable.
Some people seek God when they’re facing consequences or desperately needing help. But once things improve, their commitment disappears.
This is sometimes described as jailhouse religion—turning toward God during a crisis without developing a lasting desire to follow Him.
Are you rejecting the only thing that could possibly save you?
Communion reminds believers of Christ’s sacrifice and the seriousness of our relationship with Him. Following Christ should be more than a religious routine or an emergency response.
Do you want a relationship with God, or do you only want His help when something goes wrong?
Will God Always Answer Your Cry for Help?
Proverbs 1 warns about rejecting wisdom and refusing correction.
Proverbs 1:28 (KJV) says:
“Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:”
This passage challenges the assumption that we can continually reject God’s instruction without consequences.
All prayers for help don’t get answered.
This doesn’t mean every unanswered prayer is evidence of God’s rejection. God is merciful and willing to forgive those who sincerely repent. But we should never take His patience for granted.
Does God ever give up on people?
Rather than testing the limits of God’s patience, we should respond to His Word while we have the opportunity.
Are you listening to God now, or are you waiting until calamity forces you to pay attention?
Are You Someone People Can Depend On?
Trust isn’t only about where we place our confidence. It’s also about whether others can place confidence in us.
You can’t depend on people if the greatest person they are trying to serve is themselves.
Selfishness makes relationships unstable. When someone’s greatest priority is personal comfort or benefit, their willingness to help others often disappears when sacrifice becomes necessary.
If you want people to have confidence in you then you need to be real with them.
Proverbs 14 emphasizes the importance of truthfulness, while 2 Corinthians 6 highlights integrity and sincere love.
Being trustworthy means telling the truth, keeping commitments, admitting mistakes, and genuinely caring about others.
Are you someone people can depend on, or does your commitment disappear when serving them becomes inconvenient?
Do You Believe People Can Change?
Do you believe people can change?
Sometimes we become so familiar with someone’s mistakes that we struggle to imagine them becoming different.
But the Gospel teaches that God can transform lives.
1 Corinthians 15:10 (KJV) says:
“But by the grace of God I am what I am…”
Paul recognized that his life had been changed by God’s grace.
Real transformation involves repentance, faith, and a willingness to live differently.
If we believe Christ can change us, we should not dismiss His ability to change others.
Do you believe in the transforming power of Christ, or have you decided that some people will always remain who they used to be?
Challenge: Examine Your Confidence
This week, challenge yourself to:
- Put your confidence in Christ. Don’t depend entirely on people or circumstances.
- Be consistent in your faith. Stop treating God like an emergency contact.
- Listen to God’s instruction. Don’t wait until calamity comes to take Him seriously.
- Become trustworthy. Practice honesty, integrity, and genuine concern for others.
- Examine your motives. Are you serving God and others, or primarily yourself?
- Believe in transformation. Recognize that God’s grace can change lives.
Final Reflection
Confidence is easy to talk about when everything is going well. The real test comes when life becomes uncertain.
“Do you have confidence in me?”
Are you trusting God consistently? Are you living in a way that makes you trustworthy to others? And do you genuinely believe Christ can change lives?
Don’t put your confidence in flesh put your faith in Christ!
People may fail, circumstances may change, and our own strength may prove insufficient.
But our confidence should remain rooted in Christ.
